Simple syrups are one of the easiest ways to spiff up a cocktail and the good news is that they are equally easy to make and make great homemade holiday gifts. Simple syrups, such as this rosemary and sage simple syrup make great gifts when paired with a bottle of spirits or even as a set of different flavors. These syrups can accentuate numerous cocktails including this or this or this. See after the jump for ingredients and recipe...
Ingredients:- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- several sprigs of rosemary or sage
- In a small saucepan, mix the sugar and water.
- Bring to a boil and immediately reduce to a simmer until sugar is melted. Turn off heat.
- Place herbs in water and steep as you would a tea for several hours.
- Let cool before serving or bottling.
To package I bought several 12 ounce bottles from Sur La Table similar to this one. I created labels using scraps of card stock and pretty papers from Paper Source and tied them with metallic baker's twine.Stay tuned for upcoming gift guides and more DIY holiday gift ideas!
