Pa amb Tomaquet...

089 This is my take (well really my Dad's as he made it for us all the time growing up) on the traditional Catalonian snack.  Usually made by rubbing garlic on toasted bread and then rubbing a ripe tomato on the bread and finally seasoning with olive oil and salt.  I do mine a little different and add rosemary for an extra kick.  Overall, this is a super simple snack or even combine with some prosciutto and olives can even be a dinner for a light night.

093 What are your favorite snacks you had growing up?

  1. Looks delicious. I honestly grew up eating tomatoes, I can just eat them all the time. And also, while we lived in a farm, we used to grow watermelons, so it was so fun to grab a giant watermelon in the summer and eat it the field.

    1. There is almost nothing better than eating produce straight from the garden/ field/ orchard!

  2. Mmm, that looks delicious. Brings me back to my trips to Spain eating pan con tomates (very similar—though not much of a surprise).

My favorite mid-day meal (snack, lunch, whatever—usually I'd go to grab a bite and end up eating it all) was tomato salad. Tomatoes, chopped basil, salt, pepper, olive oil, covered and left to marinate at room temperature for at least an hour but preferably more. Give me a slice of squishy white Italian bread and I'd be a happy camper.

    1. In the summer, when tomatoes are at their best, I can pretty much eat them whole with a dash of salt. This salad doesn't sound like a bad use of them either!

  3. Delish. My roommate makes stuff like this a lot (she's Greek) and I would have to say my favorite snack right now is fresh motz. cheese, avocado, and tomato salad with olive oil, salt, pepper and balsamic! YUM.

    1. You had me at avocado! This sounds delish!

  4. Yum! I love this kind of snack especially in the summer with really ripe farmer's market tomatoes! Have you had the tomato bread at Estadio? You'd love it!

  5. Yummmmm! Garlic, bread, and tomatoes- you can never go wrong :)

  6. Sounds so good. a perfect snack. Can't wait for summer and good tomatoes to be back in season!

  7. My mouth is totally watering right now, which means I probably need to eat lunch... but moreso that I can actually make this tonight at home. Thanks for the tip - yum!!!
