DIY Gold Striped Box...

102This is another easy, no-brainer DIY that maybe took 30 minutes (not including drying time), but I think it really has a great impact.  The box used was originally my "treasure chest" as a child, where I'd store random trinkets, seeds, rocks, etc... that I found while playing.  However, as of late, it has just been sitting in my closet collecting dust.
See after the jump for materials and instructions...

131 Materials:
  • wooden box
  • masking tape
  • white acrylic paint
  • gold metal effects paint
  • brush
  • exact o blade (I used this to get stubborn tape pieces off)
How To:
  1. Tape off box in whatever pattern you wish.  I did diagonal stripes/ herringbone.
  2. First paint a coat of white acrylic on bare wood portions.  This helps whatever top coat color you pick to stand out better against the wood.
  3. Once dry, paint several coats of gold (or whichever color you pick) paint allowing ample time for drying between.  It took me three coats.
  4. Allow to fully dry or else paint will peel off with tape.
  5. Remove tape gently being careful not to peel paint off as you go.
