Pick-Me-Up... Blueberry and Rosemary Gin Fizz

julipmade61

If you want an whimsical, but clean cocktail then this is your drink. The rosemary compliments the juniper notes in the gin and the blueberry adds a much welcome sweet/ fruity accent.  Read below to find out why the ability to drink this is an accomplishment for me now...

Ingredients:
  • 1 oz gin
  • 3 oz club soda (I used lime flavored)
  • rosemary skewer
  • handful of blueberries
julipmade62

  1. Pour the gin and the club soda in a glass over ice.
  2. Skewer the blueberries with the rosemary.
  3. Use the rosemary/ blueberry skewer to stir drink.  Enjoy!
I need to add that until very recently I have not been able to drink gin and if I do, I've had to hide the gin flavor under loads of sugar and fruit.  The story behind this is that in college, as a Natural Resource major, we had to take a plant and tree identification class.  Well one of the trees we learned to identify was Juniperus virginiana (aka Red Cedar or Juniper Tree), father to the cone that is used to flavor gin (and make kidney medicine... who knew).  At a party that weekend, I spied a bottle of gin and thought that it was just the coolest thing ever that I knew not only the tree it came from, but that tree's scientific name as well (reallllly cool right?).  I proceeded to celebrate this fact with the alcohol in question and since that next morning, have not been a fan of gin. Now you all know what a huge nerd I was am, but life lesson "Don't ruin the taste of a good alcohol just because you know some obscure fact about it."

Anyone else have a life lesson/ story like this?

  11. That sounds delish! I recently within the past year became a fan of gin. I defintiely can't do a gin and tonic though. My favorite gin drink is an elderflower gin fizz. Also anything with cucumber works for me too. Gonna have to give this one a shot for sure! :) xoxo
