TGIF... Freedom

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
I am sooo thankful that the weekend is here.  This week has been a crazy one and I can't wait to get out of the city away from the throngs of sweaty, bewildered tourists f*ing up the metro and packing in like sardines to see fireworks that I've seen approximately 20 times before.  We'll be heading out to my parents place in VA for a classic American BBQ/ party.
Activities for the weekend include:

  • BBQing
  • Water fight
  • Slip n' slide
  • Hiking in Shenandoah National Park (at White Oak Canyon's waterfall slide)
  • Fireworks (while trying not to light the field on fire)
  • Roasting S'mores over the Bonfire
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
The menu will look a little something like this:
First Course:
  • Watermelon, Arugula, and Feta Salad
  • Tennessee Style Coleslaw
  • Tri-Colored Potato Salad
  • Grilled Chipotle-Lime Corn on the Cob
Main Course:
  • Grilled Chicken with Spicy Peach BBQ Sauce
  • Sweet Italian Sausage with Sauteed Onions and Peppers
  • Eggplant Fattoush
  • S'Mores
  • Blueberry Lemon Cupcakes
  • Strawberries and Cream Cupcakes
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
All decor including drinks will be casual, but sporting the colors of the day:  Red, White, and Blue!  I can't wait to get out there to start the fun. How do y'all plan to spend your long weekend?

  1. wow - looks like your weekend is going to be wonderful - I love that it includes a slip'n'slide!

  2. I made mixed berry vodka (in a mason jar, of course) around the same time as you did. And when I strained it this weekend, I thought "I wonder how Julie's turned out" because I remember you were shooting for a fourth of July finish. Is that creepy, or cool? Let's go with cool. Or else it's just weird that I told you that.
